Marine Park Rules

As divers, it is our responsibility to be stewards of the ocean and coral reefs. The Mexican government has done a wonderful job of establishing marine parks that are free of commercial fishing and litter. Unlike many other dive destinations, you will very rarely find corals ensnared in fishing line or see litter on the ocean surface or on the sea bottom. If you do find litter on the bottom, you can put it the pocket of your BCD or give it to your divemaster/instructor.

RULES FOR SNORKELING AND DIVING

  • Keep your life jacket on at all times while snorkeling.
  • Do not use sunscreen before your dive or snorkel. Sunscreen kills the coral reef.
  • Do not wear gloves.
  • Do not touch the coral reef or the marine life.
  • Do not dispose of any waste or litter in the water.
  • Do not intentionally feed the fish at any time, even from the shore.
  • Do not remove any marine life from the ocean including coral and shells even if they're empty. Empty shells are the coral reef's "real estate". Don't steal some marine animal's future home!
  • Always dive under the supervision of a dive professional.
  • Student divers, including Discover Scuba Divers are not allowed to use a camera underwater. Snorkeling clients may use a camera.
