Vacation planning tips

TIP No. 1: KNOW WHERE YOU'RE STAYING

There are more than 100 hotels in Cancun, including south of the airport, north of central Cancun and in the Hotel Zone. Lodging outside of Cancun central and the Hotel Zone are all-inclusive resorts that are very isolated and perfect for people who want to get away and never have to leave the resort, unless they want to take a tour or leave for the airport. There is no shopping near these resorts and the only transportation available (other than tour buses) are taxis. These resorts are not located close to Scuba Cancun Dive Center.

Resorts and lodging in central Cancun and the Hotel Zone have easy access to Scuba Cancun Dive Center as well as shopping, restaurants and many other activities that Cancun has to offer via buses, taxis and Uber.

Remember, take a look at the Cancun map when your planning your stay in Cancun before you book. That way, you'll be sure to select the perfect location for what you want from your vacation in Cancun.

TIP No. 2: GETTING FROM THE AIRPORT TO YOUR LODGINGS

If you're staying at a resort, chances are very good they will offer transportation to and from the airport. Check the resorts website for details.

If you'll be staying at an Airbnb, a hostel or a hotel that doesn't offer transportation, there are easy options for you to use:

  • Taxis are readily accessible at the airport and there are many English speaking people available to assist you in getting a taxi.
  • Request an Uber. The taxi union and Uber in Cancun are now working together to offer visitors the option of using Uber.
  • Download the ADO bus app to your phone. You can purchase your ticket through the app and the bus will pick you up outside the terminal. Again, there are plenty of English speaking people at the airport that will be willing to assist you (please think about giving them a tip for their service).

TIP No. 3: DOWNLOAD WHATSAPP TO YOUR PHONE BEFORE ARRIVING

Just about everyone and many businesses in Cancun use WhatsApp to send messages and make phone calls. You can easily communicate with Scuba Cancun using WhatsApp and you won't be using any data from your cell phone plan.

TIP No. 4: BRING SOME CASH FOR TIPS

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted throughout Cancun, but you can't use your card to tip at many places, including Scuba Cancun. Many, many people in Cancun rely on tips in order to earn a living. It's the way the economy works here in Cancun. US dollars are accepted almost everywhere throughout Cancun, just don't bring any bills larger than $20, or you may not be able to break them.

For those of you traveling from other parts of the world where tipping is not part of your culture, we ask that you respect that it is a way of life in Cancun. Avoid exchanging money at the airport, you can easily find money exchange services with better rates all over Cancun to obtain pesos.
